This latest release by The Surgeonaires is a wonderful collaboration that showcases the amazing talents of Michael Burston (aka Wurzel of Motorhead).

The Dancer, written by Tigger Lyons (founder member of 70s rock band Hustler) was originally recorded in 1986. The 8 track demo featured Wurzel on guitars, along with Tigger on bass and vocals and a Drum Machine but thanks to technology, the recording has now been enhanced with the real drums of John Barrett and the chunky guitar and backing vocals of Brian Dear, who along with the bass playing of Tigger Lyons are The Surgeonaires.

The Dancer is one of four songs due to be released, recorded during more relaxed moments in the mid 80s, between Motorhead Tours and away from the Rock & Roll madness that Wurzel loved.

The two became good friends back then and Wurzel would stay for long weekends between Motorhead Tours and other band commitments at Tigger’s home in Uxbridge. They would listen to music, share ideas, drink tea, smoke exotic brands and make music in Tigger’s home studio.

Tigger had a 9 to 5 job and a wife and baby daughter at the time, He would drive over to the Motorhead Pad, in North London, on a Flexi Friday and bring Wurzel back to Uxbridge. With Tigger’s wife and daughter at the mother in-laws for the weekend, they would chill during the day and record music all night, a few hours kip and the same again the next day. On the Sunday evening, Tigger would return Wurzel home safely, into the arms of Lemmy.

Wurzel was a kind soul who loved performing but sadly, he died in 2011. However, his legacy lives on.

THE LINE UP

Brian Dear (Guitar & Vocals) is a dynamic vocalist who was inspired by the likes of Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello. A lifetime of experience, treading the boards as a soloist and front man for some impressive lineups which has made him an engaging performer. He is also an inspirational song writer who favours the Fender Telecaster as his weapon of choice.

Tigger Lyons (Bass & Vocals) was a founder member of Hustler (A&M Records 1974) and experienced the high life of 70’s rock and roll, touring with Queen and Status Quo, plus TV and Radio appearances. Tigger wrote and collaborated with other members of Hustler to write most of their material and he is currently enjoying the creation of many fresh musical ideas with his two comrades. He’s also a master of the low end, favouring the 4 string electric bass that plays a prominent role in the Surgeonaires sound.

John Barrett (Drums & Vocals) is a versatile musician, having played everything from traditional Irish acoustic music, jigs and reels to the heavy punk rock of ‘Steranko’ and their wild stage shows and open air performances in Korea which you can find on Youtube. John also contributes to the vocal element of the Surgeonaires sound. The band's tightness is largely due to his sharp timekeeping and focused rhythms.
